Our Story

A Legacy of Innovation and Sustainability

Since its founding, Shachar Group has been redefining waste as a resource, turning its vision - Nothing is WasteD into impactful action.
Our story began in the late 1940s when Paltiel Poterman, grandfather of our founders, established a small agricultural farm in Israel. By the 1970s and 1980s, it had grown into the country’s largest cattle feedlot, pioneering the use of food industry byproducts and waste for feed — a forward-thinking approach that laid the groundwork for our commitment to sustainable resource management.

Inspired by this legacy of innovation and circular thinking, Paltiel’s grandchildren, Itzik and Shai Shachar, launched Shachar Group in 2005, transforming a family heritage into a platform for industrial-scale sustainability.

What started as a pioneering initiative in food waste recycling has since evolved into a leading force in sustainable innovation. Today, Shachar Group develops and implements cutting-edge technologies that transform organic waste into high-value materials, including alternative proteins, organic fertilizers, and advanced recycling solutions.
With expertise spanning waste-to-feed, environmental systems, and Black Soldier Fly (BSF) technology, the group delivers scalable solutions that drive efficiency and sustainability across industries.

Beyond its own operations, Shachar Group fosters innovation by investing in emerging technologies that align with its mission. Committed to both environmental impact and industrial progress, the group continues to push the boundaries of waste transformation, shaping a smarter, more sustainable future.

Our Milestones

2005

Becoming Shachar Group

Shachar Group was established as an industrial startup focused on advanced food waste recycling. As we grew, so did our services—adapting to diverse waste streams while staying true to our sustainability mission.

2012

Technological Leap

We have reached a major milestone with the deployment of state of the art de-packaging technology — marking the next phase in refining our systems with more advanced, automated, and innovative processes and production lines.

2014

Global Recognition

Recognition accelerated once leading multinational companies in Israel began implementing our recycling model — first Nestlé-Osem, then Unilever, followed by others who embraced the value of our sustainable solutions.

2016

From Waste to Protein

We entered the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) sector, engaging with industry leaders and backing innovative startups—including Flying Spark and FreezeM—to upcycle food‑waste streams into sustainable protein, oil, and fertilizer.

2017

EU Recognition

Shachar Group was recognized by the European Union under the European Investment Fund as a traditional industry company promoting innovative activities in the environmental sector.

2019

Grant for Carbon Reduction

Shachar Group was recognized by the Israeli government for its contribution to carbon reduction efforts, receiving a grant for the establishment of the new plant focused on activities that help reduce carbon emissions.

2020

Expanding Capacity

Recognizing the need for greater capacity, we began planning a new plant near our existing site in 2016. By 2020, the transition was completed, and the facility became fully operational, with expanded capacity for waste reception and processing.

2021

Shachar Environmental System is Born

Shachar expanded its services with Shachar Environmental Systems, offering advanced treatment technologies—EPS compression, liquid de-watering, and in-container compaction—alongside on-site implementation and support, reducing disposal costs and increasing recycling efficiency.

2021

Binge is born

With rising global interest in BSF, Shachar Group founded Binge Organics Ltd., focusing on BSF R&D. Its pilot facility develops food-waste feeding methods to produce protein and fat for feed. Binge Organics drives Israel’s BSF market and plays a key role in the national consortium established by the Israel Innovation Authority.

2021

Meet the Weirdoh

The idea for Weirdoh emerged from our quest to enhance product value. This led to the creation of the world’s first truly sustainable modeling dough, crafted primarily from recycled, unconsumed stale bread.

2022

Carbon Credits

Shachar Group began issuing and selling carbon credit certificates in the voluntary market.

2024

Sede Bar BSF activity

Shachar Group completed the initial planning phase for the first industrial-scale BSF plant in Israel, dedicated to converting organic waste into alternative animal protein, fat, and organic fertilizer. This marks a significant milestone in the development of sustainable solutions in the country.
